PlayCore and CPRS Initiative Recognizes Two New National Demonstration Sites and Launches Initial Report on Action Initiative

PlayCore, a leading designer, manufacturer, and marketer of a broad range of play and recreation products, and its GameTime brand are proud to announce two additional playground openings as a continued part of the Action Training Initiative with the California Park and Recreation Society.

Recent park openings include, A Place to Play Park, in Santa Rosa, CA, followed by Hilltop Park, in El Segundo, CA. The new park spaces will serve as National Demonstration Sites for data collection to promote best practices across a number of health and active behavior initiatives. Hilltop Park will have an official presentation of National Demonstration Site certificates later this month.

Both sites have been designated as PlayOn! National Demonstration Sites, as they promote physical activity and active play. The Play On! Program is the result of a joint partnership between PlayCore and physical activity experts SHAPE America, designed to provide a valid solution to creating healthy bodies through active play. Each park features a variety of six key elements of play to promote physical activity: balancing, brachiating, bilateral upper body activities, climbing, sliding, and spinning. By utilizing Play On!, which includes 125 standards-based fitness activities designed for the playground, the sites can help children be more active, and learn to see fitness as fun.

“The PlayOn! Program is an exciting opportunity to extend our physical education classroom to the outdoors. Through creative learning, the PlayOn! Curriculum arouses the student’s sense of curiosity, imagination, and adventure to achieve a healthy, active, lifestyle,” said Theresa Boehm Miller, Springfield Public School’s Curriculum Development Chair.

As National Demonstration Sites, they will receive certification, become a part of a national registry, and both be promoted actively to other communities wishing to offer spaces in which encourage active play.
